Chinese food places tend to serve “westernized” versions of their dishes (sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken, etc) in restaurants. They do in North America, at least. But there’s often a more authentic menu full of flavours, textures, and ingredients that aren’t as familiar to a “western” palate (bitter melon, tendon, daikon, gai lan, non-fried fish). I’d love to see the Tryers’ reaction to more authentic, more traditional Chinese dishes, the ones without the bright red sauces or battered, deep fried chicken. I don’t recall seeing a lot of Asian foods on the channel, and I don’t know what the Asian food scene is like in Ireland.
